Cambridge Singing Competition is sponsored and hosted by Cambridge Academy of Music at Johns Creek, GA and is open to public participation.
Competition participants must be 2nd through 12th grade students entered in one of the following categories:
Dazzling Singing Star | Grades 2-4 |
Rising Singing Star | Grades 5-6 |
Sparkling Singing Star | Grades 7-8 |
Shining Singing Star | Grades 9-10 |
Super Singing Star | Grades 11-12 |
Cash Prizes for each category will be:
First Place | $50 |

Competition Regulations
- Participants must be in 2nd to 12th grade.
- Application fees must be paid by the registration deadline and are non-refundable.
- The first-round competition will be a closed performance, and the final round will be an open performance with an audience.
- A student’s performance by memory is mandatory and without the use of a microphone and sound system in both rounds.
- Students must bring original music scores with all measures numbered for the judge’s use.
- Absence at scheduled competition time will forfeit the application fee, and there is no makeup.
- Students will perform for the judge in-person with accompaniment.
- The decision of the judge is final and cannot be questioned by the participant, teacher, parent, or the public.
- All the performers’ comment sheets and certificates from the competition will be mailed to the teacher or the parents who entered the students or can be picked up at the end of the competition.
- Finalists will be contacted via text message right after the results are announced and should return to perform in the final round.
- There will be no makeup for finalists if they are absent at the final round.
- An alternative finalist will perform in place of the absent finalist.
- Finalists will choose to perform one of the pieces in the first-round competition in the final round.
Repertoire & Performance Requirement
Students must choose commercially published pieces.
For 2nd to 8th grade students – perform two pieces
- First piece: Art song, folk song, or traditional song (Singing in original language is optional.)
- Second Piece: musical theater solo piece
- Live piano accompanist is required, no background soundtrack allowed.
- Students should bring their own piano accompanist.
For 9th to 12th grade students – perform one or two musical theater pieces
- One or two solo pieces from musical theater production within a 7-minute total time limit.
- If students choose to sing 2 pieces, the pieces must be chosen from a different musical.
- Live piano accompanist or background soundtrack is required.
- Students should bring their own piano accompanist.
- If using background soundtrack accompaniment, students must bring their own loudspeaker for the soundtrack device and operate the system themselves.
Judging Criteria
Performances will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Technical Ability (40%): Accuracy, control, and mastery of singing technique
- Musicality (30%): Expression, dynamics, phrasing, and the interpretation of the music
- Stage Presence (20%): Confidence, professionalism, and presentation during the performance
- Repertoire Choice (10%): Appropriateness and difficulty of the selected pieces relative to the performer’s level

Application Procedure
- Applications must be submitted with the Cambridge Singing Competition online application form.
- A teacher or parent/guardian must submit the application – one form per student. No other application formats will be accepted.
- Application fee payment must be paid through Cambridge Academy of Music secure online payment system upon completion of the application form.
- Late applications after the application deadline will not be accepted.
