Georgia Music Teachers Association (GMTA)
Students participate in the GMTA auditions held in the spring, which are dedicated to the promotion of excellence in solo and chamber music performance. Students will compete with others in the same school grade from several divisions, including piano solo, piano concerto, instrument concerto, voice, organ, strings, woodwinds, brass, classical guitar, and percussion.
Winner categories are Outstanding Performer (1st Place), Award of Excellence (2nd Place), and Honorable Mention (3rd Place). The judge in each division chooses the top winner from the Outstanding Performer group to receive the title of Conference Recitalist, who will be invited to perform at the Winners’ Recital at the GMTA Annual Conference in November.
Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA)
GMEA promotes the advancement of music education in Georgia. They provide students performance evaluations for individuals and ensembles. These include band, choral and orchestra at the middle and high school levels – the All-State Orchestra, the All-State Chorus, the All-State Band, and the High School All-State Jazz Ensemble. For the elementary school students and sixth graders, they offer Statewide Honor Choral events.
Students are selected by a panel of judges to join these All-State events through two rounds of audition in the fall, and performances are held in late February and early March the following year at the Classic Center in Athens, Georgia.
